Use my 4 Pillars of PR to refine your message and give clarity to your comms
I'm all about making PR intentional.
PR shouldn't be accidental, it should be strategic and have a purpose. Now's as good a time as any to do a quick check-up on comms, and how you can make use of my 4 Pillars of PR
Positioning
A simple, and important, starting point. How and where do you position yourself within your industry - and beyond?
What do you do, how do you do it, and who for?
What problem do you solve?
What's your area of expertise?
How do you work with people?
Are these messages reflected on your website, biography social channel bios etc?
Curation
What you curate and share with your audience matters. It tells them about your values, interests, and general vibe. It can also lead to PR opportunities and collaborations.
Think about which businesses, people and ideas you share with your audience. It says a lot about you!
Be strategic. Can you share a business, person or idea that taps into a particular audience demographic key to your own biz?
Human Connection
How do you show human connection through your business? This is such a key area of brand development in 2022. Most people want transparency from the brands they support. If you'd prefer to not be the face of your business you can still work on this pillar:
Branding - logos, arts, memes, colour palette - consistency leads to trust and credibility.
Do you have a team / one-person page on your website with a bit of a bio?
Tell the stories instead of your clients, customers, collaborators
A Call to Action / The Sale
Always have a call-to-action in mind throughout your comms. What do you want to achieve with your PR? If you land a great interview feature - what's the purpose?
Growing back-links to your website - be sure the editor includes a website link
Developing social media presence - be sure to shout out how people can follow you on a particular channel
Launching a product or service - ensure it's a talking point, how can you show it off?
Activity
Which of the 4 pillars are you implementing already?
Are you doing some more than others?
What are you most comfortable doing, and which needs work?
Jot some content / PR ideas down under each heading
Remember - some of what you are doing might not be intentional. But you can change all that!
