What Journalists Are Really Looking For

In any job, when your clients or co-workers give you the things you need or appreciate, it makes your job so much easier, right?

Applying this to PR... these are some of the top journalists 'wants':

  1. Trusted sources! They want credible talking heads or comment persons ready to give their take on a hot topic!

  2. Bespoke content - what can you offer that's bespoke to you/ your business or experience? Your top tips for decorating a living room could be a how-to get into DJ'ing... apply your skills to create a bespoke angle.

  3. Relevant ideas for their readers. Ensure that what you're pitching is relevant to the person you're emailing. If they write about dog shows and you pitch a gallery opening, you're in the wrong place! Do your research and go with a quality-over-quantity approach!

  4. Lean into your most new-worthy angles when pitching. For example, if you want to share ways your business is adapting to the cost of living crisis. But make it more specific to your industry and what's getting coverage if you can.
