How to prepare for 2024

Most folks start yearly planning in January, but hear me out; now is better! Avoid the new year rush to organise yourself and enjoy the holidays, knowing you can get straight into action feeling refreshed and prepared. Here is my 5-step guide to help you plan for PR in the coming year.

How's your year been?
Evaluate the success of your PR efforts from this year. Note what worked and what didn't. This can help you make informed decisions for the upcoming year. Don't worry about creating a big report full of graphs and data - you probably don't have time, and it'll feel overwhelming. At the very least, draw a table with two columns of Positives and Negatives and note what comes to mind.

What's hot on your calendar?
What is the BIG STUFF happening next year? Think music releases, product launches, events, and tours. Plot out when those things might happen so you know when your big PR drives might be.
Also, consider key dates (international or themed days) and milestones (birthdays, celebrations), relevant to your business only!

Update Press Materials.
Have a read and refresh your electronic Press Kit - make sure you add any successes from 2023, plus update any info and add any new content or imagery, so it's looking perfect for the new year. I've got a Press Kit guide and Press Release template right here if you need it.

Set objectives.
Define a couple of PR objectives for the new year. How do you want PR to impact you next year positively? Don't just do PR for PR's sake; think about what you'd like the outcome of PR to be. It needs to be intentional for you to reach a desired goal. E.g. Increased profile as an expert in your field. Being able to book more gigs. Sales of a specific product or service.

Identify your 'MVP's (Most Valuable Press):
Keep your prized wins short and sweet. I'm talking quality over quantity regarding targets whilst staying on track for what's achievable and realistic. Aim high, but don't give yourself an overwhelming, impossible job. You could also include ideas for desirable collaborators, events, partners, and brands.
